A former Texas City  ommissioner, who was already on probation for her involvement in a 2017 car crash that resulted in the deaths of a father and son, has been arrested for driving while  intoxicated.

Dee Ann Haney, a 61-year-old woman, was taken into custody at approximately 4 a.m. on September 27th after being charged with driving while intoxicated. The authorities have set her bond at $100,000.

Authorities from the Texas City Police Department were initially notified about Haney’s vehicle by a witness who observed her driving erratically and speaking with slurred speech. Upon making contact with Haney, she informed them that she had been assaulted by three unidentified individuals near a park. However, the witness stated that she had seen Haney outside her car, rolling on the ground, and screaming with no one else around before reporting the incident.

According to TCPD officials, Haney was questioned about the substances in her system. She admitted to taking her regular medications, but not her nightly dose. Additionally, she mentioned consuming one beer and one shot earlier in the evening. The police officers noticed signs of alcohol consumption, such as the smell of alcohol on her breath, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and impaired balance.

Haney was arrested after he refused to use a breathalyzer.

In a tragic incident, Haney found herself on probation following her conviction on two counts of criminal negligent homicide. The incident occurred in July 2017, when she accidentally hit 58-year-old Van Duoc Le and his son, 33-year-old Hong Phuc Le, with her car on the side of Interstate 45. The collision resulted in the unfortunate death of both individuals.

According to court records, she confessed to a DPS trooper that she had smoked marijuana prior to the accident. Although she was not charged with intoxication, there was sufficient evidence to hold her accountable for the deaths of the two men.
