In 2023, a male student accused a former high school teacher of engaging in an “improper relationship.” As a result, the teacher has been arrested and is now facing a felony charge.
In 2023, Molly Colleen Spears, who is currently 35 years old, faced allegations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a male student. As per the NY Post, she is also accused of making contact with the student through text messages to arrange meetings. The age of the student involved has not been disclosed.
Reports indicate that in 2001, Spears commenced her employment in the Barbers Hill Independent School District. From August 2021 to June 2023, she served as an arts and language teacher. However, she now faces charges of second-degree improper relationship between an educator and a student.
The NY Post reports that her teaching certificate is currently listed as “inactive”.
State records show her teaching certificate has been listed as “inactive” since September 2024, with the educator under investigation for alleged misconduct, according to Texas Education Agency records.
The grand jury indicted the former teacher on February 8, 2024, and a warrant for her arrest was issued shortly thereafter. The NY Post reports that the reason for the delay in taking her into custody remains unclear.
The potential punishment for her is a prison term ranging from 2 to 20 years, along with a possible fine of up to $10,000.
