Governor Greg Abbott has recently introduced a new initiative aimed at deterring migrants from attempting to enter the country illegally. The campaign involves the installation of billboards in Central America and Mexico. These billboards will display messages about sexual assault and Texas’ border enforcement efforts. The goal is to raise awareness among potential migrants and discourage them from making dangerous and illegal border crossings. By addressing the issue of sexual assault and highlighting the strict border policies in Texas, the campaign aims to emphasize the risks and consequences associated with illegal immigration.

The state has recently started putting up numerous billboards, according to Abbott. During a press conference, Abbott stood in front of six billboards with different messages, including: “If you illegally cross the border into Texas, you will be incarcerated” and “Coyotes deceive you. Don’t endanger your family – they’ll suffer the consequences.”

“They are informing potential illegal immigrants about the harsh reality they will face if they attempt to enter Texas unlawfully,” Abbott stated. “This approach is a strong and necessary measure.”

According to Governor Abbott, the state of Texas has launched a public service campaign aimed at deterring migrants from crossing the border. The campaign includes billboards with messages in multiple languages, including Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. The estimated cost of the billboard campaign is around $100,000.

The state has taken several measures to enhance border security. They have constructed sections of the border wall and added concertina wire along the U.S.-Mexico border, specifically on the Rio Grande riverbank. Additionally, they have deployed a significant number of Department of Public Safety troopers who have successfully apprehended migrants on criminal trespassing charges.

Operation Lone Star, the border crackdown, has incurred a staggering cost of over $11 billion thus far.
