A tragedy struck the hiking community at Grand Canyon National Park when a Texas man was found unresponsive on the Bright Angel Trail last Sunday.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident happened around 2 p.m., and bystanders immediately provided CPR until park services arrived.

Sadly, the 50-year-old from San Angelo, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating to determine the cause of death.

This unfortunate event marks the third death on the Grand Canyon’s hiking trails in the last 30 days.

Previously, the  AZ Family reported that a 69-year-old Texas man died after falling ill on the River Trail.

These fatalities underscore the dangers of the rigorous trails, especially during periods of extreme heat.

The victim of the most recent incident had stayed overnight at Havasupai Gardens before attempting to reach the rim of the Grand Canyon. Authorities have yet to fully disclose the details surrounding the hike and what may have led to his death.
