The family of Taylar Jackson is holding James Harden’s restaurant, “13 By James Harden,” responsible for overserving the driver who caused the fatal accident that killed Jackson and six others.

The family of a man who died in a horrific crash in Houston is suing the Los Angeles Clippers player’s restaurant, blaming the establishment for overserving alcohol to the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident.

As reported by Click 2 Houston, the crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on November 11, 2023. Seven people lost their lives when Christian Herrera ran a red light and T-boned another vehicle. The police investigation revealed that three former University of Houston football players—D.J. Hayden, Zach McMillian, and Ralph Oragwu—were killed when the Chrysler 300, driven by 25-year-old Herrera, collided with them. Herrera also struck a black Acura SUV, driven by Lauren Robinson, with Taylar Jackson as a passenger. Both were killed. Additionally, Frank Johnson, a pedestrian, was also struck and killed by the Chrysler.

Taylar Jackson’s family is now suing “13 By James Harden,” accusing the restaurant of serving Herrera alcohol beyond the point of intoxication, contributing to the tragedy. The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million in compensation for the family.

“He was served past the point where he was obviously intoxicated to the extent that he presented a clear danger to himself and others,” the lawsuit states.

According to KHOU, the lawsuit also claims that the restaurant failed to properly train its staff and lacked practices to monitor customer alcohol consumption.

In response, the restaurant’s Chief Operating Officer, John Ricks, issued a statement on December 9.

“We cannot imagine what the family of Taylar Jackson has gone through this past year and offer our deepest sympathies to them and everyone whose lives were deeply impacted by that tragic accident. We were just made aware of the filing of this lawsuit. We ask for your patience as we gather more information on this filing and will make a more formal statement as soon as possible.”
