According to the killer’s wife, the individual who took the lives of two Toronto residents earlier this week believed that they had defrauded his family. The family had reportedly lost over CDN $1 million in an investment scam, and were in the process of suing the two individuals responsible. This information was revealed in court records.

On Monday, an office building in north Toronto was the site of a tragic incident where a man and a woman were shot and killed by an assailant. The shooting took place in close proximity to a daycare center. The attacker also lost his life during the incident.

“My husband, Alan Kats, was unable to cope with the loss of our life savings, which ultimately led to this tragic incident,” stated Alisa Pogorelovsky, as per the statement released by her legal representatives. It is worth noting that Alan Kats also lost his life in the shooting.”

In her message, she expressed her desire for her family to become better someday.

Police have released the names of the victims from Monday’s shooting, identified as Arash Missaghi, aged 54, and Samira Yousefi, aged 44. The shooter, however, remains unnamed at this time.

According to court records, Pogorelovsky and her husband filed a lawsuit against the two individuals who were shot, as well as others, claiming that they lost CAD $1.28 million (USD $930,000) in an alleged mortgage fraud scam.

The court had not yet found Missaghi and Yousefi guilty of the charges brought against them.

In 2016, Missaghi faced charges related to his involvement in a complex mortgage fraud scheme valued at CDN $17 million (US$12.4 million). The authorities labeled the investigation as Project Bridle Path.

Pogorelovsky expressed in a statement that the lawsuit involving Missaghi and Yousefi has caused immense pain and has ultimately shattered their family.

According to reports, she discovered a message from her spouse after the tragic incident, which shed light on his thoughts and the reasons behind his actions.

On Monday afternoon in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, a shooting incident occurred at a shop that deals with “financial transactions,” according to the police.
