Galveston County voters are gearing up for an important decision as they prepare to choose their next sheriff in a closely watched race set to take place on November 5, 2024.

The voters will have to make a decision between two candidates, Republican Jimmy Fullen and Democrat Mark A. Salinas. The two contenders are competing to take over the position of the current Sheriff, Henry A. Trochesset, who has decided not to run for re-election.

Fullen, who won his party’s primary earlier this year, continues to be under scrutiny. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is currently investigating Fullen due to allegations concerning his previous employment history and claims of undisclosed employment issues, which include disciplinary actions and past legal complications. However, despite these allegations, Fullen enjoys substantial support and endorsements, including those from prominent Texas figures such as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and State Sen. Mayes Middleton.

Voters can cast their ballots on Election Day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
