A man from D.C. is currently behind bars as he allegedly shot and fatally wounded his father within a Navy Yard apartment.
Darryl Smith, aged 61, was discovered deceased on Tuesday evening at The Parc Apartments located on First Street Southeast.
Sharon Smith, the sister of De-Angelo Goldston, expressed her disbelief when she learned that her 37-year-old nephew was the one who pulled the trigger.
“I’m upset because he loved his son,” she said. “He loved all of his kids dearly. He would always say, ‘I’d die for my kids,’ but I never thought he would die by the hands of his kid.”
Smith, a wheelchair user, had a deep passion for music and an incredible talent for rapping. His family lovingly shared a heartfelt video of Smith showcasing his skills during his mother’s funeral.
“If he was standing here right now, he’d say, ‘Let me ask you something, you like rap?’ and he would just start spitting,” Sharon Smith said. “He wanted to be a rapper. He was a really good person. I’m going to miss him. A heart of gold.”
A gun was recovered by investigators at the scene.
Goldston is currently facing charges of second-degree murder and is currently being held in jail.
The defendant made his court appearance on Wednesday, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for the month of March.
