Around three million people in the Kansas City area could be affected as the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Friday.
A tornado watch has been issued for certain parts of Kansas and Missouri, which will remain in effect until 11 p.m. tonight.
According to the National Weather Service, storms were visible in Kansas stretching as far west as Salina and as far south as Newton. They also reached as far east and north as the Kansas-Missouri state line. This report was released on Friday afternoon.
The NWS has reported that the tornado watch will extend its impact to the residents of Kirksville in the east, Clinton in the south, and Maryville in the north of Missouri.
According to the NWS, Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall starting at 7 p.m. The storms are predicted to move east overnight, and flash floods are a possibility. Additionally, some areas near the Missouri River may experience flooding throughout the weekend.
According to a report by the National Weather Service on Friday, the area affected by tonight’s tornado watch includes 1293 schools and 95 hospitals. In addition to the threat of tornadoes, residents should be on the lookout for wind gusts of up to 75 mph and scattered hail as big as tennis balls. Stay alert and stay safe!
