Three men were arrested during a traffic stop in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood after investigators recovered firearms and suspected drugs, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrests occurred around 75th Street and Dobson Avenue when members of the Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division stopped a car and discovered firearms and drugs inside, according to officials.
Maurice Jones, 22, was driving the vehicle. According to investigators, he had marijuana on him and was charged with unauthorized possession of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance.
Another passenger, Jakobie McKinney, 22, was allegedly carrying a loaded weapon and 17 rounds of ammo. The sheriff’s office stated that he lacked a valid FOID card or concealed carry license. He was charged with aggravated unauthorized possession of a weapon.
The third man, Damonte Thompson, 20, was apparently in possession of a “ghost gun” rifle loaded with 22 rounds, as well as approximately 118 grams of marijuana. He also did not have a FOID card or a concealed carry license, and he is facing multiple narcotics charges as well as aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm, according to police.
Officials stated that all three individuals were arrested without incident.
Authorities could not explain why the vehicle was initially halted.
