The National Hurricane Center recently announced the naming of Tropical Depression Two in the Eastern Atlantic, which is situated approximately 1400 miles E-SE of the Windward Islands.

At this moment, the wind is consistently blowing at a speed of 35 mph.

The storm is currently making its way towards the west at a speed of 17 mph.

As T.D. 2 approaches the Windward Islands over the weekend, it is expected to continue moving westward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph. The forecast cone indicates that Hurricane or Tropical Storm Watches will probably be issued for the Windward Islands by Saturday morning.

According to the latest forecast cone, T.D. 2 is projected to become the first hurricane of the 2024 season and potentially reach Category 2 status. Once it develops into a tropical storm, it will be named Tropical Storm Beryl.

The potential impacts that this could bring to the Gulf Coast are still uncertain. However, one thing is for sure, elevated rip current risks will most likely be present during the 4th of July weekend.
