Two NYPD officers were shot while sitting in their patrol car on Staten Island on Thursday evening, according to cops.
Two men were detained at the 120th precinct stationhouse in connection with the shooting, and police said they were hunting for other suspects.
Shots fired around 5 p.m. while the two policemen were sitting in a police vehicle on Wayne Street and Broadway in West Brighton.
Police helicopters flew overhead as they searched through the night.
Witnesses said they heard at least two gunshots and saw a man sprinting down the street.
It’s not known how near the shots were to the police. Police stated they were uninjured and did not return fire.
NYPD detectives searched the area while NYPD helicopters shone spotlights on the streets below.
An inquiry into the shooting remained ongoing on Friday.
