A Southern Tier pharmacist in New York is now facing 17 felony charges after an investigation into fraudulent prescription activities.
New York State Police have arrested Clyde T. Stevens, 46, from Binghamton, following an investigation conducted at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Endwell, Broome County. The arrest took place on Feb. 23.
The NYSP stated that Stevens dispensed both controlled and non-controlled substances illegally during his time as a pharmacist. This included the issuance of fraudulent prescriptions.
The company initiated the investigation after uncovering anomalies in the distribution of medication.
According to NYSP, Stevens was found to have exceeded the prescribed limits on several occasions.
The pharmacy incurred a financial loss of more than $4,000 due to these actions.
Stevens had illegally obtained prescriptions for controlled substances without the authorization of any medical professional.
Stevens faces multiple charges, including five felony counts of illegally selling prescription drugs, 11 felony counts of forging medical prescriptions, one felony count of grand larceny, and five misdemeanor counts of fraud and deceit involving controlled substances.
