Venezuelans in Colorado protest election results from their home country

Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan leader, has declared his victory in the presidential election held on Sunday. However, the opposition is disputing his claim by citing the exit polls that suggest Maduro’s challenger has won by a significant margin.

Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, is raising doubts about the result and urging for more transparency.

Blinken expressed grave concerns about the announced outcome, stating that it may not accurately represent the true wishes and votes of the citizens of Venezuela.

Venezuelan immigrants in Colorado are closely monitoring the current situation and many are feeling disheartened. They were optimistic about the possibility of an end to the political and economic turmoil that has driven a significant number of people to leave Venezuela.

After a wild night, the parking lot at Havana Street and Mississippi Avenue in Aurora, which belongs to Target, was left in disarray. It had become the site where Venezuelan immigrants had congregated on Sunday to witness the election results.

As they swept and collected garbage, a group of individuals expressed their desire for their fellow Aurorans to have a positive perception of their community. Their efforts aimed to rectify the mess left behind by others.

In the words of Augusto Colls, “My aim is to provide a solution to the problem, not just the problem itself.”

Genesis Salloum Rosas has declared Nicolas Maduro’s victory as a complete fraud. According to her, the vote tallies that she tracked on social media indicate that there was a significant backing for opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez. “It’s a total fraud,” she expressed her disappointment.

In an interview with CBS Colorado, she expressed her frustration in Spanish, stating that Venezuela has already suffered under 25 years of dictatorship and cannot afford to endure 6 more years. She emphasized that the ongoing protests are a result of people’s unwillingness to accept this verdict.

CBS Colorado was shown videos by Salloum Rosas, depicting people taking to the streets in Venezuela sent by her friends. According to her, Venezuelans are in a state of desperation and if the country continues on this path, more people will be forced to flee.

She emphasized that if the current government does not collapse, the number of people leaving the country could exceed the previous years’ emigration rate.

In relation to the elections in Venezuela, Gov. Jared Polis expressed his belief in the right to a free and fair election. He condemned the actions of socialist dictator Maduro for depriving Venezuelans of their rights, dignity, and freedom, and for stifling democracy. The governor stands in solidarity with Venezuelans worldwide and urges the international community and America’s allies to continue putting pressure on Venezuela’s government, given the irregularities in the election results. This serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting leaders across the world who recognize the significance of democratic electoral processes and accept election results without casting shadows or planting seeds of doubt to manipulate the outcome.
