Following a detailed investigation, Weymouth police apprehended two suspects thought to be involved in a recent shoplifting crime, according to a social media statement from the Weymouth Police Department. The crime occurred on March 19, 2025, at the Stop and Shop grocery on 700 Middle Street, where the accused reportedly stole more than $1,500 in Health and Beauty Care products.
A shoplifting incident was reported to authorities three days after it occurred. Security guards provided police with a description of what happened, verifying that two ladies departed the business with the unpaid merchandise before fleeing in a silver minivan. A Brockton police investigator helped identify the suspects, who were found panhandling. Maria Misclescu and Iasmina Sanatescu were both arrested on March 31, 2025, and are now facing accusations of ‘larceny exceeding $1200’ and ‘conspiracy to commit larceny,’ according to the Weymouth Police Department.
The suspects, ages 25 and 20, lived together at 125 Willard Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Following their arrest, both were released on bond and appeared in Quincy District Court last Tuesday. The Weymouth Police Department emphasized the need for inter-departmental collaboration in apprehending these individuals, recognizing that the investigation may generate further charges as it develops.
The police have asked the public to come forward with any information related to this case or other similar thefts. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Weymouth Police Department at (781) 335-1212. The ongoing investigation and the possibility of additional charges highlight the broader issues surrounding theft and its impact on the community. The police statement emphasizes that “all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
