After exchanging letters for over five decades, a woman from Wisconsin and her pen pal from Australia finally had the opportunity to meet each other in person. In fact, the Australian pen pal even acted as the matron of honor for her long-time friend.

Judy Mihelich and her husband, Mike, are beginning a new chapter in their lives. Interestingly, Judy got married to someone whom she had known her whole life but had never met in person. The wedding ceremony was held in Brookfield, Wis.

Mihelich shared that they talked about important milestones in their lives such as having children and getting married. She fondly refers to her friend as her soul sister.

Carol Canny, a friend of Mihelich’s, hails from Australia. They became pen pals when Mihelich was in fourth grade and have continued to write to each other for over fifty years.

Mihelich revealed that despite having known each other for 50 years, they had never actually met in person.

However, everything changed this week.

Judy Mihelich’s longtime pen pal, Carol Canny, flew all the way from Australia to Wisconsin to become her matron of honor.

Mihelich shared that they were able to meet in person after a long time. “We finally got to see each other face to face,” Mihelich expressed with tears in their eyes. The moment was incredibly emotional for them.

On Saturday, Canny traveled all the way from Australia to be Mihelich’s matron of honor.

Mihelich reflected on how life can progress in leaps and bounds. “I had certainly experienced a few of those,” he said.

After losing her husband in 2018, Mihelich found solace in the unwavering support of Canny. It was only natural that she would stand by her friend on her special day, considering all the ways Canny had been there for her during her time of need.

Despite the severe storms, a couple managed to share a memorable first dance while taking shelter in Lake Geneva on their wedding day.

Canny expressed her gratitude, saying, “I feel extremely fortunate to be serving as Judy’s matron of honor.”

This heartwarming friendship is a true testament to the fact that love knows no boundaries, whether they be physical or emotional.
