The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision arrested a woman on Tuesday after she allegedly sent narcotic-laced legal mail to multiple convicts.
DOCCS claimed synthetic paper sprayed with synthetic marijuana, a legitimate mail stamp, and priority mail envelopes were discovered at the suspect’s residence.
The suspect, who has not been identified, faces charges of promoting jail contraband.
It’s unclear whether any of the infected letters were involved in the claimed exposures to unknown substances that were reported at various correctional facilities this year.
DOCCS is implementing a new system-wide mail screening method to avoid similar incidents in the future.
