Overnight, troopers stopped a woman who had been traveling the wrong way for about 20 miles on US 60 in the East Valley.
Just before 1:30 a.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety received a report of a wrong-way driver on U.S. 60 near Signal Butte Road. The driver was driving westbound through the eastbound lanes.
DPS troopers pursued the vehicle on U.S. 60 and spiked the tires, but the driver continued driving. One trooper rammed the vehicle to prevent it from colliding with other vehicles. Authorities intercepted the driver on Rural Road, which is over 20 miles from Signal Butte.
Freeway cameras captured troopers seizing the driver.
We identified the woman as a 28-year-old Queen Creek resident who is under investigation for impairment. Her name has not been released.
Fortunately, no one was gravely wounded during this occurrence.
Troopers said the woman was arrested and charged with DUI.
