Ten people were shot after several males opened fire on a crowd gathered outside a music venue in Queens, New York, according to a press conference held early Thursday by the New York Police Department.

Officers received reports of many persons being shot at an event venue in Queens at 11:18 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.

Rivera said there were 90 individuals inside the building, which was at capacity. There was a line of roughly 15 people waiting outside to access the room when three to four men arrived and began firing.

Rivera reported that ten individuals, all aged between 16 and 20, sustained gunshot injuries. Six of the injured are women, and four are men, he said. Area hospitals received them with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities estimate that the group received at least 30 rounds.

According to authorities, the male suspects fled on foot before driving away in a vehicle with out-of-state plates.

Authorities are investigating if the incident was gang-related. “This was not a terrorist attack,” Rivera stated.
