Just days after President Donald Trump unveiled his mass deportation plan, a Mississippi county witnessed almost twenty immigrant arrests.

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order granting the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department the authority to apprehend undocumented immigrants residing in the country without legal status.

ICE agents detained a total of 20 individuals on Tuesday and Wednesday for illegal entry-alien, indicating that these individuals entered the United States without proper authorization or stayed beyond the allowed timeframe.

All the individuals who were arrested, consisting of both Hispanic and Asian individuals, are currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center. The exact locations of the arrests have not been disclosed.

Mississippi’s Office of the State Auditor released a report in August 2024, revealing that there are approximately 22,000 unauthorized migrants in the state.

A proposed bill in Mississippi aims to introduce a bounty hunter program to track down and apprehend undocumented migrants. This controversial initiative has sparked a heated debate surrounding immigration policies in the state.

The Clarion Ledger attempted to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and ICE regarding the recent arrests, but as of this publication, no response has been received.

The current arrests do not seem to be part of a massive raid similar to the one that took place in 2019. During that operation, hundreds of immigration officials targeted seven food processing plants in Mississippi, apprehending around 680 individuals who were believed to be living and working in the country without proper documentation.

It was labeled as the most significant immigration operation in more than ten years, and it also holds the record for being the biggest raid in the history of a single state.
