The South Carolina National Guard will send approximately 220 soldiers to support President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
These soldiers will join 8,000 National Guard personnel from 40 other states and territories at the nation’s capital on Sunday, January 19.
Soldiers from the 1-118th Infantry Regiment will help the DC National Guard, the Secret Service, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the United States Capitol Police with crowd management, traffic control, parade duties, CBRN response, civil disturbance response, and sustainment.
“Supporting civilian authorities during the 60th Presidential Inauguration is yet another example of the South Carolina National Guard’s commitment to remain ready, relevant, resilient, and responsible to our communities, state, and nation,” adjunct general for South Carolina, Maj. Gen. Van McCarty said.
Departure and return dates have not been revealed for security concerns.
