26 local dispensaries preparing for the sale of recreational marijuana

According to recent reports, the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control has granted provisional licenses to a total of 80 cannabis dispensaries that are interested in selling medical and adult-use marijuana. It is worth noting that 26 of these dispensaries are located in Northeast Ohio.

The dual-use licenses currently held by cannabis businesses are merely temporary and do not permit them to commence sales. Further regulatory steps must be taken before they can officially operate and cater to non-medical customers. As a result, it remains uncertain when your nearby dispensary will be able to serve the general public.

Ohio’s Division of Cannabis Control is taking necessary steps to ensure that dispensaries meet inspection requirements and have point-of-sale systems that can differentiate between medical and non-medical cannabis sales. They are also implementing the state’s 10% excise tax before granting the certificate of operation, which will allow them to begin selling recreational marijuana.

According to James Crawford, a spokesperson for the division, the certificates for dispensaries will be issued in the same order as their applications were received. However, as of now, no certificates have been issued yet.

According to the given criteria, it’s crucial to understand that there won’t be a specific day designated for the start of sales. The licenses will be issued, and it will be up to the retailers to decide when to initiate the sales based on their staffing, inventory, and other factors. As per the spokesperson, the Medical Marijuana Control Program has already laid a strong foundation, and the current medical permit holders who are eligible for dual-use status and have undergone comprehensive checks can expect a quicker turnaround for the issuance of licenses during the summer.

As per the guidelines mentioned in the new legal cannabis statute of the state, qualified shops should receive certificates from the government by September 7th.

In November, Ohio voters gave their approval to Issue 2, which now legalizes the possession of up to 2 1/2 ounces of cannabis flower and 15 grams of extract for individuals aged 21 and above. Moreover, Ohioans are now allowed to cultivate up to six cannabis plants per household, with the number increasing to 12 plants if multiple adults are present in the residence.

Local communities in Ohio have the option to prevent new adult-use cannabis businesses from operating within their limits, as per the law. As a result, despite the increasing number of dispensaries in the state, at least 56 communities have chosen to impose moratoriums or permanent bans on such businesses.
