In Texas, authorities reported that a man is currently facing multiple charges following a tragic 17-vehicle pileup that resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including a semi-truck driver.

Austin Police have taken into custody and charged 37-year-old Solomun Weldekeal Araya with five counts of intoxication manslaughter.

The Austin Travis County Medical Services reported that the crash occurred on Thursday, March 13, around 11:23 p.m. on I-35.

When officials arrived, they discovered several individuals trapped in their vehicles after the accident, as reported by KEYE.

Five individuals, including a child and an infant, were declared deceased at the location.

A total of 17 individuals sustained injuries, with 11 individuals requiring hospitalization due to a range of injuries from critical and life-threatening to minor.
