In a recent news release, Alvin L. Bragg Jr., the NYC DA, announced that Assamad Nash, aged 27, has pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony in New York State Supreme Court. Nash is set to receive a sentence of 30 years to life in state jail on July 30.

Court papers cited in the release and Nash’s guilty plea reveal that the frightening incident occurred on February 13, 2022, at 4:20 a.m., when Christina Yuna Lee, aged 35, entered her apartment building near Grand Street and Chrystie Street.

The New York Post obtained troubling surveillance footage of the incident, which depicted Nash and Lee walking down a cramped hallway with only about six feet between them as Lee headed towards her apartment.

According to the statement, Lee’s neighbors dialed 911 at 4:22 a.m. due to hearing a fight and her cries for help. Upon arriving at Lee’s apartment a few minutes later, the New York police also heard her screams, but were unable to gain entry.

According to earlier reports, Nash faced charges of first-degree murder and two counts of burglary in criminal court.

About a month following the death of Michelle Go, another Asian American woman named Lee was tragically killed. People were frightened by the attack on Go, who was pushed in front of a train car, and this only heightened their concerns. According to the New York Times, the number of hate crimes against Asians reported to the NYPD had doubled from the same time the previous year.

According to the GoFundMe page created in memory of Lee, her loved ones expressed their grief over her untimely demise, stating that she was a victim of a meaningless act of aggression upon returning home from a night out with her friends.

According to Angela Yujin Lee, who arranged the event on behalf of the Lee family, Christina exuded vibrant energy. Her infectious spirit was brimming with happiness, affection, and optimism. Christina was always there for her friends, providing unwavering support in whatever they did.

According to the statement, she made every effort to demonstrate her love to the people close to her and never expected anything in return. Her loved ones, acquaintances, and society will bear the burden of her passing for a long time.

When the guilty plea was announced, DA Bragg expressed gratitude towards the police and other investigation teams for their unwavering dedication to the case.

In a statement released today, it was announced that Assamad Nash was found guilty of the murder of Christina Yuna Lee in her own home. According to the statement, there was no apparent reason for the senseless act of violence. The loss of Ms. Lee has devastated her loved ones and those who knew her as a daughter, sister, and friend. As the community comes to terms with this tragic event, my heart goes out to her family and the people of our town as they begin the healing process.
