Ezra Toczek, who is now five years old, has been facing health challenges ever since he suffered liver damage during his birth. Unfortunately, according to doctors, he is currently experiencing end-stage liver disease, which indicates that his liver is failing.

Carissa Fisher, who used to be Ezra’s preschool teacher, stepped up to help when she learned about his condition. Without the Toczek family’s knowledge, she applied to become a living donor in March. She underwent the necessary testing in New York City and was thrilled to learn that she had been approved.

Next, Fisher made her way to Ezra’s house to deliver the news to the Toczeks. Armed with a stuffed animal, balloons, and a personalized sign, she was ready to share the exciting news with the family.

Karen Toczek, mother of Ezra, expressed her overwhelming emotions as she shared, “He said, ‘I’m going to get a new liver’,” reflecting her son’s hopeful attitude.

During a conversation with Russo, Fisher expressed how emotional it was to witness the impact she made on the lives of others. “You never know whose life you are going to be changing,” she stated. Seeing the happiness and joy on the faces of those she helped brought great happiness to Fisher as well.

Ezra’s family is eagerly anticipating the scheduling of the liver transplant, which they hope will take place later this summer. However, the transplant team is located in New York City, which means that in addition to medical expenses, they will also have to bear the cost of travel. If you wish to extend your support, Toczek and Fisher have set up GoFundMe pages for this purpose.
