On Thursday, the man who allegedly drove into a crowd on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on July 4th, was arraigned on an indictment that charged him with the deaths of four individuals.
According to reports, 44-year-old Daniel Hyden was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a group of individuals at a barbecue. Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of four people and caused injuries to seven others.
On the Fourth of July, a crowd of people celebrating the holiday was tragically struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Jackson and Water streets. The incident resulted in the loss of lives and left almost a dozen people injured.
Hyden faces multiple charges, including four counts of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, four counts of second-degree assault, and three counts of third-degree assault. He is currently being held without bail.
According to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Daniel Hyden was driving under the influence when he crashed into a group of loved ones who were celebrating Independence Day in Corlears Hook Park. Bragg stated that Hyden’s actions caused the untimely deaths of Lucille Pinkney, Herman Pinkney, Emily Ruiz, and Ana Morel, while also leaving seven others with severe injuries. This tragic incident has left the community mourning the loss of these individuals and praying for the recovery of those who were injured.
Police reported that Hyden was driving with a suspended license due to failing to respond to a summons on four occasions across three different dates.
According to a law enforcement official, the speed at which Hyden from South Brunswick, New Jersey was driving was approximately 40 mph.
The perpetrator hit the victims after breaking through two sets of fences.
According to officials, Hyden had completely pressed down on the gas pedal and only hit the brakes half a second before the ultimate collision.
According to reports, when the vehicle finally came to a stop, Hyden made an attempt to flee by putting his truck in reverse and trying to continue driving. However, witnesses were able to intervene and stop him by removing the key from the ignition.
