Galveston Island Beach Patrol reported that a teenager from Louisiana lost his life by drowning in Galveston on Friday. The victim was only 17 years old.

At 2:53 p.m., the beach patrol received a distress call about a swimmer in trouble on the west side of Tower 25.

Upon the arrival of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol supervisor, the lifeguards alerted them to a swimmer who had gone missing.

Multiple guards teamed up with additional agencies to search the area, deploying a jet ski to aid in the efforts.

The 17-year-old was rescued from the water by the beach patrol at precisely 3:38 p.m.

The Galveston police and fire departments administered CPR to the teenager and promptly transported him to UTMB via Galveston EMS. Unfortunately, the medical team pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the teenager.

According to Eyewitness News, the teenager’s death has now become the fifth drowning incident on Galveston Island in the current year. Lt. Austin Kirwin from the beach patrol stated that usually, there are approximately seven to eight drowning cases per season.
