The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 25-year-old man, Christopher Baker, in connection to a spree of armed business robberies that have taken place across Northeast D.C. over the past week.

According to an MPD press release, the arrest happened as a result of increased police vigilance in response to a pattern of robberies concentrated in the Fifth District.

Staff at a business on the 1500 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Northeast, allegedly resisted Baker’s demands, leading to his detention on Friday.

Officers quickly apprehended Baker, who fled without any loot, and charged him with assault with intent to commit robbery while armed.

Shortly after Baker fled the unsuccessful robbery attempt, the officers saw him running with a knife.

Further investigation connected Baker to other incidents involving similar aggressive methods. Baker allegedly entered establishments armed with a knife, demanded cash, and quickly fled. These robberies occurred between January 1 and January 9. The Metropolitan Police have revealed specifics about the incidents, pinpointing multiple locations on Rhode Island Avenue and Mount Olivet Road where Baker is allegedly involved. Baker is now facing multiple charges for the armed robberies, in addition to the first accusation of assault with intent to rob.
