In a truly disturbing event in Texas, a 24-year-old man named R. Babin has been arrested after striking his 61-year-old mother numerous times in the head with a hammer during an argument, leaving her gravely injured and in critical condition. Authorities claim the man later confessed to the crime in a frightening sequence of online postings, leaving a town in shock and a mother struggling for her life.

Babin was arrested last week and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the horrific attack on his mother. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a 911 call from the family’s house in the evening. The call occurred after Babin allegedly contacted a friend via a gaming platform and admitted to the crime in real time. “I am in trouble and need your help,” Babin allegedly told his friend. “I just assaulted my mother with a hammer. I got angry. I don’t know what to do. I can’t go to prison.” In a scary follow-up message, Babin reportedly said, “I have to get rid of the hammer and destroy the evidence before the cops arrive.” I do not want to end up on death row. I struck her several times on the head and side.” She is barely breathing.”

According to authorities, the friend did not discover the texts until about two hours later, which cruelly prolonged the victim’s misery. When deputies arrived at the house, they discovered Babin’s mother lying in the garden, bleeding badly from the head and lifeless. The woman was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. As of the most recent update, she is still hospitalized, unable to talk, and her long-term prognosis is uncertain.

Investigators suspect the attack took place following an altercation between Babin and his mother inside the house. The degree of the woman’s injuries and the number of strikes administered remain undisclosed, although an earlier court statement indicated that she was struck at least “a few times” with the hammer, notably on her head and side. Babin originally denied involvement, telling investigators that he had left his mother napping while he went to the store and was astonished to see the police when he returned. However, the purported digital chats to his gaming companion contradicted his explanation and resulted in his detention.

The county jail now holds Babin without bond. If convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, he may face a 20-year sentence. Authorities stressed the gravity of the situation, stressing that the digital confession was important in directing deputies to the truth about what happened. There have been no more court dates set, and it is unclear whether additional charges will be filed based on the victim’s recovery.
