After being missing for four days, a 75-year-old man who had fallen off a ledge was discovered in a bog by a game warden and his K-9, according to officials in Maine.

According to social media posts from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Michael Altmaier, a resident of New Sharon, Maine, had been missing since last Monday. He had left his home to attend a meeting in Weld, a small town situated in the southwest part of the state. His car was found by park staff at the Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook in Weld.

On Friday morning, the search for Altmaier began by the Maine Warden Service. After an extensive search, Game Warden Kayle Hamilton and his K-9 companion, Ash, found Altmaier around 3:45 p.m. local time. Altmaier was located along a bog, approximately 3/4 of a mile away from where his car was discovered.

Officials have stated that Altmaier fell down a ledged embankment on Monday and may have become disoriented.

According to officials, Altmaier received an initial assessment and first aid from game wardens, search volunteers, and a paramedic before a Maine Forest Service helicopter airlifted him to a waiting ambulance. He was then transferred to a local hospital, where he stayed overnight.

According to emergency rescue workers, Altmaier’s condition was surprisingly good despite spending four days in the bog area. However, the hospital has not yet released an update on his condition.
