On May 24th, off Cumberland Island, Lauren E. Harden from St. Mary’s succeeded in catching a massive crevalle jack weighing 33 pounds and 10.72 ounces.

Back in 1981, the record for the largest crevalle jack caught by a woman in the state was established.

According to officials from the Georgia Division of Natural Resources, they will be commemorating Lauren’s record-breaking achievement with a certificate that has been signed by Governor Brian Kemp, DNR Commissioner Walter Rabon, and CRD Director Doug Haymans.

The Atlantic Ocean is home to the Crevalle jack, which thrives in tropical and temperate waters. This species is native to the region and is well adapted to its environment.

These creatures have the potential to reach a weight of 70 pounds and a length of up to four feet.
