An 18-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a 16-year-old at a basketball game in Jackson on Friday night.
The attack at a Jackson Academy girls’ basketball game is allegedly the fault of Drayton Kelley.
According to court filings, Kelley reportedly slit the victim’s throat while sitting in the bleachers.
People referred to the weapon as a “blue-handled skinning knife.”
At the game, police quickly arrested Kelley.
According to WKRG News 5, Jackson police said the victim was in stable condition and that they were still investigating the motivation.
The school issued a media statement on Facebook requesting prayers.
“Jackson Academy is working closely with law enforcement officials to ensure that all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined and that appropriate actions are taken,” the school said.
“Our priority is to support the investigation in any way possible and to provide all necessary information to the authorities. The safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, as well as that of the public, are of the utmost importance to us. Counselors and pastors will be on our campus for students affected by the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this incident. The administration and board request your prayers as we navigate through this difficult time.”
