American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio work crews are preparing to assist Texas customers in anticipation of Hurricane Beryl.

AEP officials recently announced on social media that they are sending over 120 lineworkers and support team members from various locations across the state to Corpus Christi. The team will travel for two days to reach their destination and aid in restoration efforts as Beryl’s path is projected to cause widespread power outages in AEP Texas’ service territory.

AEP takes great pride in their field personnel, who demonstrate a willingness to assist others during times of crisis.

Officials expressed their concern and offered prayers for those who are in the path of the storm. They also reminded everyone to drive safely and urged crews to exercise caution.

The Texas coast and inland are still under the effect of a Hurricane Warning and a Tropical Storm Warning. Beryl is closing in, and the winds are expected to intensify as it approaches the coastline tonight.

According to experts, power line faults or short circuits can occur due to the swinging of power lines caused by the wind, which can lead to service interruptions.

When wind is strong, it has the power to knock down trees and tree limbs onto power lines, leading to power outages. In severe cases, high winds can even break power lines and utility poles, causing significant damage to the infrastructure that delivers power.
