According to Alabama state troopers, a tragic highway accident claimed the life of a 10-year-old child from Mississippi on Sunday.

A juvenile from Belden, Mississippi lost their life in a single-vehicle crash that took place around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday.

The 2023 Nissan Versa crashed into an embankment, critically injuring a 10-year-old who was riding as a passenger.

Sadly, the young person was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead shortly after.

Raymoni L. Gordon, a 31-year-old resident of Tupelo, Mississippi, was injured in the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Nissan was involved in the crash.

An area hospital provided treatment to Shuntalisha D. Metcalf, a 36-year-old from Belden, Miss., and a 1-year-old passenger who were injured in the Nissan.

The accident happened on Interstate 22, specifically at the 29 mile marker, which is roughly a mile west of Brilliant in Marion County.
