State leaders in Alabama are expressing concern after two mass shootings occurred within a week. The incidents have sparked worry and prompted officials to consider measures to ensure the safety of residents.

Over the weekend, four individuals lost their lives in a tragic shooting incident that occurred in Birmingham. Additionally, on Thursday, a separate shooting in Bibb County claimed the lives of five people, including four children.

In the wake of two devastating mass shootings that claimed the lives of nine individuals in Alabama, State Representative Kenyatté Hassell (D-Montgomery) has voiced his opinion on the matter. According to Hassell, the key to addressing gun violence lies within families.

Hassell emphasized the importance of strengthening families and establishing a solid family structure. In his view, approaching family members involved in certain activities and encouraging them to put down their weapons could make a significant difference. He believes that this holistic approach can lead to positive change in the entire community.

As a member of law enforcement, State Rep. Russell Bedsole (R-Alabaster) acknowledges that gun violence is caused by a multitude of factors. However, he firmly believes that the underlying cause is simply pure evil, which must be tackled by society as a whole.

Bedsole suggests that various factors need to be considered when analyzing whether an incident took place in an urban or rural setting. It is important to determine if the incident was a direct result of any criminal activity.

According to Hassell, one effective way to improve our communities is by providing mentorship to our young people. He believes that this approach is grassroots in nature and can make a significant impact.

Hassell emphasized the importance of family, which he believes is God’s first institution. He stated that returning to these values is crucial and doesn’t require any financial cost. “I tell people that the institution of family is something we need to prioritize. If we can get back to these fundamental values, it would make a significant difference,” he said.

Lawmakers are currently exploring methods to reach out to the youth and prevent them from getting involved in illegal activities at an early stage, as per Bedsole.

Bedsole believes that the early exposure of children to certain things is a contributing factor to the cycle of violence. As per Bedsole, “But I can tell you, at the end of the day, I believe that some of what our kids are exposed to so early on is a contributing factor of the cycle of violence.”

According to Bedsole, it is important for us to communicate with empathy and respect towards each other, regardless of the argument at hand.
