Antwuan Brown, 39, of Alpharetta, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl following what investigators call the largest fentanyl seizure in the Northern District of Georgia’s history.
Brown appeared for the first time before U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker earlier today. According to court records, on March 21, federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program and Sandy Springs police officers executed search warrants at an apartment and a vehicle in Sandy Springs as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
Investigators found a pill press filled with fentanyl powder as well as two weapons inside the flat. Brown was found nearby with the key to a suspicious vehicle in his pocket. Officers used the key to gain access to the vehicle parked in the complex’s garage, where they discovered around 240,000 fentanyl tablets, 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl powder, cocaine, and methamphetamines. Brown was detained at the spot.
Assistant United States Attorney Matthew R. LaGrone is prosecuting the case, which has been investigated by the DEA and the Sandy Springs Police Department. It is part of Operation Take Back America, a national Department of Justice operation focused on disrupting drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from violent crime.
