Attempted kayak escape after allegedly shooting husband leads to woman's arrest

The house where Tomas Calavera Jr. was discovered deceased (KSAT). Faith Paige Goynes (Calhoun County Adult Detention Center).

According to Calhoun County deputies, Goynes came under their investigation when she set fire to a 2024 GMC pickup truck near Port O’Connor, which belonged to Calavera. The incident took place about 150 miles east of San Antonio, Texas. An eyewitness reportedly saw Goynes putting out the flames as she walked away from the truck. The arrest affidavit states that a gas can and lighter were discovered near the vehicle.

Deputies and an officer from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department discovered Goynes as she allegedly tried to make her escape on a kayak. It was reported that Goynes had burn injuries on her hand and was found with Calvera’s ID.
