The Northeast is bracing for a series of consecutive storms that will bring snow, sleet, and rain over the course of three days.

According to the National Weather Service, the initial wave of systems is expected to reach its destination by Tuesday afternoon, February 11. Subsequently, it will progress towards the north.

According to AccuWeather, the southern parts of the Northeast are expected to experience the heaviest snowfall, with widespread totals ranging from 3 to 6 inches.

Monday, Feb. 10 is expected to be a primarily sunny day with seasonably cold temperatures, preceding the arrival of the new storm.

A second storm system is forecasted to arrive on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and continue into Thursday, Feb. 13. This system is expected to bring a mix of snow, ice, and rain as it moves from the south to the north.

The second storm, like the first one, will make its initial impact in the southern areas of the Northeast before moving northwards on Wednesday night and lasting until about midday on Thursday. It will then exit from New England.

Snowfall amounts are expected to be generally light in the current outlook, with most areas experiencing accumulation in northern and inland parts of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New England.

The second storm will also bring ice across a wide area, and there is a possibility of significant icing in the regions highlighted in the darker shade of pink in the fourth image above.

The weather forecast for Valentine’s Day on Friday, Feb. 14 is looking promising with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in line with the season. However, there is a chance of another storm arriving over the weekend.
