Ohio has passed a new law aimed at fighting lead poisoning.

On Wednesday, Governor Mike DeWine approved House Bill 226 as a solution to address the expenses associated with eliminating lead service lines.

Public water utilities regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio now have the authority to replace customer-owned lines, according to recent updates.

Customers who have their lead lines replaced can now be reimbursed under the new law.

According to Representative Monica Robb-Blasdel of Columbiana County, the bill has her full support. She firmly believes that financial constraints should not subject anyone to the detrimental effects of lead.

An EPA report reveals that Ohio accounts for eight percent of the nation’s total of 9.2 million lead service lines, with a staggering 745,061 lines present in the state.

This report has been enriched by the valuable contribution of Madison Meeker.
