A Bronx man who was just released from prison was arrested and accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday inside the apartment complex at 140 Bellamy Loop in Co-op City.
On Saturday, the 45th Precinct led Casmine Aska, 29, out in handcuffs.
According to jail records, Aska was released on January 30 after being convicted of attempted murder. In 2013, Aska was 17 years old when he hurled a 9-year-old boy off the roof of a five-story apartment building in Morris Heights, injuring him severely.
According to neighbors on Sunday night, Aska continues to live in the same Nelson Avenue building.
An anonymous individual behind Aska’s locked apartment door informed News 12 that Aska should have been at home and had no business being in Co-Op City, which is 20 minutes away.
Residents of Co-op City expressed outrage at the arrest.
“This is an atrocity to happen here in a place like Co-op City, which is supposed to be a safe place. A safe community,” said Lynne Johnson.
“People like that should not be eligible to be out at all,” said Sarah Ruiz, who has three daughters between the ages of 10 and 24. “I hope that this time they lock him up and they throw away the key.”
Aska was charged with first-degree rape. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
