U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Texas over the weekend seized over $312,000 worth of meth from a driver seeking entry from Mexico.
CBP officers at the the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge at the Laredo Port of Entry. On June 1, a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 45-year-old man, identified as a Mexican citizen, was stopped and referred for secondary inspection. Officers then recovered 15 parcels stowed in the truck, totaling 34.03 pounds of suspected methamphetamine worth an estimated $312,188.
CBP seized both the methamphetamine and the car. Homeland Security Investigations special agents apprehended the driver and opened a criminal investigation.
“As we begin to see increased traffic as local schools let out for the summer, our frontline CBP officers maintained their vigilance and stopped a significant load of methamphetamine,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo City Port of Entry. “Continued enforcement activity such as this seizure illustrates the effectiveness of our border security mission and helps keep our communities safe.”
