A 49-year-old man has been charged with a violent attack in an Edgewater alley that gravely injured a 36-year-old man, Chicago police said. Roosevelt McCree, of the 600 block of West Elm Street, was detained in Edgewater on Saturday evening, according to the CPD.

The attack occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue. A 911 caller reported hearing screaming, including the phrase “I’m going to kill you,” followed by the sound of a motorcycle rushing away. Upon spotting the man in the alley, a bystander initially believed he had sustained a gunshot wound and promptly summoned an ambulance.

Medical personnel discovered that a blunt object had beaten the victim in the head. The victim arrived at St. Francis Hospital in critical condition and remained unidentified as of early Friday.

McCree is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, at which new facts regarding the allegations are expected to be revealed. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery causing grievous bodily damage.
