A Florida parent was arrested earlier this week and charged with attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon after fatally stabbing her three-year-old child.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from the 27-year-old parent, later identified as R. Gatlin, who reported the near-fatal assault at their family home.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the young victim with almost twenty stab wounds on her body. They rushed her to the hospital in critical condition, where she is likely to survive her injuries.

The child’s father offered police home surveillance footage, which allegedly shows the mother getting a large kitchen knife before guiding her daughter into the hallway where the stabbing occurred.

During her arrest, she allegedly admitted to the crime. The court placed her into county jail without bail and instructed her not to contact minor children or witnesses.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, and officials are investigating whether mental health conditions, such as postpartum depression, had a role.

A qualified therapist underlined the significance of boosting community awareness and intervening early to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident has horrified the Florida community, emphasizing the need for further help and resources for those coping with mental health concerns.
