A tornado is probable on the Delmarva Peninsula Friday evening, as severe storms bring damaging wind gusts and isolated thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) severe weather zone has expanded northward to encompass southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and the majority of Delaware. The major window for risky weather on Friday is from 5 to 11 p.m., with the timing and strength determined by the northward movement of a warm front.
Dover, Salisbury, and Georgetown are among the cities at high risk, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph possible. The risk of a tornado is especially high in southern Delaware and eastern Maryland, as unstable air and wind shear develop into the evening.
Residents should secure unsecured outdoor goods, charge their electronics ahead of time in case of power disruptions, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Stay weather-aware throughout the evening, as emergency alerts may issue quickly.
