A 23-year-old woman from Maryland has been arrested and is now facing 13 charges in connection with a car accident that resulted in the death of Khyree Jackson, a rookie from the Minnesota Vikings, and two of his friends.

Maryland state attorney Aisha Braveboy made an announcement on Thursday, January 23, revealing that a grand jury had indicted Cori Clingman on 13 counts, which include DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Clingman allegedly drove at a high speed and was impaired while attempting to change lanes, resulting in a collision with the car carrying Jackson and his two high school teammates.

“This just starts our fight to get justice for these three young men, their families, Wise High School, the NFL and this entire community,” Braveboy said in a news conference .

On July 6, 2024, tragedy struck when a three-car crash claimed the lives of three young men: Jackson, aged 24, Isaiah Hazel, aged 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., aged 24. These three individuals had shared a bond as teammates on the football team at Wise High School, which is situated in the DMV metro area.

Lytton showcased his skills as a cornerback during his time at Penn State and Florida State, while Hazel honed his abilities playing for Maryland.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, Jackson had high hopes of securing a spot on the Vikings’ roster. However, despite his college experience at Alabama and Oregon, he was denied the opportunity to showcase his skills during training camp.

During the previous season, the Vikings paid tribute to Jackson by adorning their jerseys, helmets, and gameday attire with “KJ” patches and decals.

Coaches Kevin O’Connell, Brian Flores, and Daronte Jones were present at Jackson’s funeral. Additionally, the Vikings organization generously contributed to a “significant” portion of the funeral expenses.

According to Minnesota Star Tribune reporter Ben Goessling, the remaining signing bonus owed to Jackson was paid to his estate by the Minnesota team.
