Between Monday and early Tuesday, New York City experienced one of the worst stretches of gun violence this summer with at least 11 people being shot, one of them fatally. This tragedy has left the city reeling as officials try to determine the cause and prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future.

From 4 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday, Brooklyn saw seven victims while the Bronx had three and Manhattan had one.

At around 8 p.m. on East 176th Street and Mohegan Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood of the Bronx, a 39-year-old man was fatally shot in the head multiple times.

Roman Martinez, from the Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Unfortunately, no arrests have been made in connection to his killing.

Around 7:30 p.m. in Morrisania, two women, aged 29 and 28, were injured in a drive-by shooting at East 165th Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx. Fortunately, police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the incident.

In Flatbush’s Crooke Avenue, which is located just south of Prospect Park, a 21-year-old man was shot in the hand shortly before 1 a.m. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in stable condition. No arrests have been made as of yet. The incident took place in Brooklyn.

Around 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of Osborn Street and Sutter Avenue in Brownsville, two men, aged 64 and 35, were shot. Fortunately, they were taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center and are in stable condition. Unfortunately, the shooter managed to escape and is still at large.

Around 1:40 a.m., in Crown Heights at Lincoln Place and Rochester Avenue, a 43-year-old woman received two gunshot wounds in her right leg. She is currently recuperating at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, while the shooter fled the scene.

A triple shooting occurred earlier on Monday at Rutland Road and Nostrand Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, leaving two men and a 16-year-old boy wounded. The young boy suffered critical injuries, while the two men, aged 26 and 16, were in stable condition. No arrests have been made as of yet.

In East Harlem’s East 96th Street, a 24-year-old man was shot in the neck at approximately 3:15 a.m., adding to the increasing gun violence. Although the victim managed to reach NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, he was unable to communicate with investigators due to his injury.
