A son was shot by his father following an apparent argument in East Mount Airy, according to officials.

A devastating incident occurred in Philadelphia’s East Mount Airy neighborhood, resulting in a family tragedy. A 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital following a shooting.

The incident took place on Saturday night, just after 8 p.m., on the 200 block of East Phil Ellena Street, according to officials.

The son, who was initially listed in critical condition, has now improved and is currently in stable condition.

Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace explained, “It’s unclear at this time whether or not the son also had a gun. We just don’t know that. We also don’t know who was the aggressor, whether the father was acting in self-defense or whether he was acting aggressively. It’s still too early in the investigation to determine, but we are still investigating.”

The police have taken the 67-year-old father into custody, and he is likely to face charges of aggravated assault.

According to the police, there is no indication that anyone else was present at home during the time of the shooting incident.
