Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the deadline for disaster survivors in multiple counties in Texas to apply for federal aid until August 15th.

The extension of the policy is now applicable to individuals who own or rent their homes in the counties of Austin, Bell, Calhoun, Collin, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Falls, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Jones, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Liberty, Montague, Montgomery, Navarro, Newton, Polk, San Jacinto, Smith, Terrell, Trinity, Tyler, Van Zandt, Walker, and Waller.

If you have suffered uninsured losses due to the severe storms and flooding that occurred between April 26 and June 5, there is a chance that you may qualify for FEMA assistance. It is highly recommended that those affected do not delay and file a claim as soon as possible to take advantage of this opportunity.

Residents who have been affected by a natural disaster may be eligible for aid to cover a range of expenses, including temporary housing, emergency house repairs, legal services, unemployment benefits, funeral costs, and medical expenses. It’s worth noting that those who are underinsured or uninsured may also be able to receive assistance for losses to their personal property.

If you’re a resident affected by a disaster, you have several options to apply for assistance from FEMA. You can visit any of their Disaster Recovery Centers in person, apply online at disasterassistance.gov, or call their helpline at 1-800-621-3362.

FEMA has recently declared that it is looking to employ individuals who possess expertise in areas such as environmental protection, engineering, communications, geospatial information systems, hazardous materials, planning, and other related fields. The length of these positions can be up to 120 days or more, depending on the operational requirements of the disaster.

To be eligible for the FEMA local employee position, you must meet certain requirements such as being a US citizen, at least 18 years old, and holding a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, you should be able to pass a background investigation and live within 50 miles of the office you’ll be working at. Once you are hired, you can enjoy benefits such as health insurance for you and your family, holiday pay, and worker’s compensation.
