Kristin Wolter, the owner of Everbloom Design, made the difficult decision to temporarily close her flower shop in  Memphis. This came after she faced a wave of death threats for expressing her stance on not serving customers who support Donald Trump. It’s important to note that her decision is within her rights under the Human Rights Protection Act of Tennessee.

According to a report by WREG.com, a post on the shop’s Instagram page, which has since been deleted, stated, “I refuse to engage in business with individuals who support the president-elect. My priority is to establish a safe environment for myself, my staff, and my family.”

Wolter recently took to social media to announce that her shop will be closed for the week due to a series of death threats. In response to the threats, both her shop’s and personal social media accounts have been set to private for added security.

In Tennessee, businesses have the authority to decline service on the basis of political beliefs. However, it is important to note that the Human Rights Protection Act of Tennessee only safeguards against discrimination based on age, race, and gender.

According to WREG.com, Wolter intends to pursue legal action but has decided to donate a portion of her sales to the American Civil Liberties Union while she waits.
