A former Kentucky pastor was sentenced to two years and three months in federal prison last week for tax and fraud violations.

Marvin Upton, 58, was convicted of three counts of bank fraud and three counts of submitting false tax forms, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Upton was pastor of Crofton Pentecostal Church in Crofton, Kentucky. Between 2013 and 2016, Upton devised a scam operation to take money from one of his senior parishioners who suffered from dementia.

During the same time period, Upton filed many fake tax forms, omitting money from the fraud scheme.

Upton was sentenced to prison and forced to make restitution of $500,000 to the victim’s estate and $222,037 to the IRS.

There is no parole under the federal system.
